Be committed to getting your Extension done

When undertaking a home extension of any size it is really important that you are committed to getting the job done! This was something that we first touched on in an earlier blog post but I wanted to take the time here to elaborate on it a little more as I find it is something that holds people back…

A house extension should be taken as seriously as if you were planning on building a new home and moving into it from the start. When you think about it, this is a massive investment of both your time and money for it not to be taken seriously. However we see it often and it can potentially put a lot of strain on a family… It is always very exciting when you first start an extension but it can very quickly become overwhelming as quotes, issues or life get in the way.

This is where having a strong commitment to completing the extension will pay dividends!

Staying committed:

I wanted to share just a couple of little things that we find hinder people when going through the extension journey as we know that it can be hard and want to help shed some light on what you might do.

Stop procrastinating:

One of the biggest factors that contribute to this is people procrastinating over whether or not it is the right thing to do… Now this is not something that any builder, real estate agent or architect can decide for you. What is best for you and your family is up to you and your family. So take the time to consult with your love ones and make sure it is the right choice.

When you know that it is the best thing to do, be committed to getting it done for your family. If it helps, write the biggest reason why you need a house extension and put it in an area where you will see it. This will be a reminder, every day, as to why you are doing it and help you stay committed.

Don’t get too many quotes:

You may have heard of the saying that less is more… In the same sort of way it is a good idea not to go overboard with getting a heap of building quotes. This might sound a little silly but the downside to getting a lot of quotes is the time that it takes to acquire them (because you have to meet with each home builder, discuss what you want done and wait a few days or weeks to receive the quote) and it can cause you a lot of confusion with each builder possibly suggesting different things.

Now by no means are we suggesting that you should get just one quote… Aim for a maximum of three quotes for your home extension, make your decision and get going.

Stay on track:

We all live very busy lives with lots going on and demanding our attention. Therefore it can be very easy to push things back or even cancel things all together because they conflict with something that has just popped up. Be committed to a due date as to when the extension will be completed and hold yourself accountable to getting the job done by that date.

Be committed to getting the job done form the start and you and your family will be the big winners!

Make your home extension a priority!

So if you are thinking about, actually no, if you are going to get an extension added to your home, big or small, take it seriously. Be committed to getting the job done form the start and you and your family will be the big winners! That is the best advice that I can give anyone undertaking a home extension.
